Volunteer Opportunities

Our parent and guardian volunteers are essential for providing the students with a high-quality band experience. There are many volunteering needs to be filled each marching season. Volunteer opportunities are listed below. Opportunities change throughout the year, so check back periodically or read the weekly email for current needs.

Chaperone

Each trip requires a set number of adults to ride the busses and remain with the students for the duration of the trip. Chaperones ensure the students complete the event itinerary safely and on time. They must maintain a positive environment and enforce FCPS policies. They assist with meal/drink distribution, relay instructions to the students, assist with medical concerns and assist the Lead Chaperone and/or Band Director as needed during trips. Assignments and communication are made by the Lead Chaperone.

All chaperone's will need to complete the FCPS volunteer training and registration. 

​

Pit Crew

Pit Crew is tasked with ensuring that all pit and color guard equipment, instruments, and props are transported to the competitions and back. They build (and take down) props, and repair them (often). They assist the band in getting on and off the field, often with time constraints. They also put on a world-class tail-gate.

Booster Board

The Band Booster Board holds elections each spring and is always looking to fill board and committee chair positions. In addition to spring elections, open positions may be filled throughout the year as needed. Contact any board member for details.

Fundraisers

Various fundraisers are held throughout the year. To be successful, each fundraiser needs a lead and volunteers. Consider getting involved in one or more of these core fundraising events. Contact the Fundraising Chair for details.

Home Show Volunteer Opportunities

Fall Marching Band and Spring Indoor Shows

  • Bake Sale - Urbana Band's bake sales are legendary. At each Home Show we provide enough cookies, brownies and banana bread to feed Western Maryland. We need volunteers to bake the goodies (see form for guidelines) and to run the table during the show.
